From Methodist Obituaries 1928 Page 97:
"Marmaduke RIGGALL: born at Warne, near Beverley, March 15, 1851. His home was a centre of evangelical activity and strong Methodist influence. He entered the Ministry from the Alford Circuit at the age of twenty-one. On leaving Didsbury he wawawas appointed Chaplain to the garrison at Malta. He served in many circuits, both town and country, and finally settled as a Supernumerary in the circuit from which he entered the Ministry. His preaching was characterised by a strong evangelistic fervour. A man of unbounded activity, he was ever seeking to find the most effective methods of advancing the kingdom of God. He was particularly interested in the young, and was never happier than when he discovered in some young man the inststincts of a preacher, or found one whom he could bring forward as a candidate for the Ministry. He had a decided literary talent. He was always eager to use this to the furtherance of his work as a minister of the Gospel. In his later years much time was given to research in connection with the Wesley Historical Society, of which he was one of the founders. He bore much pain with great patience, and never lost his intense love and interest in the affairs of the Church and Kingdom in which he had laboured so faithfully. He entered on his eternal rest on September 8, 1927, in the seventy-sixth year of his age and the fifty-fifth of his ministry."
