Her son Lyle R. W. JOHNSON wrote of how on Sunday evenings years ago she would play the piano accompanied by her father on his violin. Friends would come over and gather round for "a real old-fashioned songfest".

She died on 21 July 1974 and was buried at Mount Emblem Cemetery on 23 July. An obituary appeared in the Chicago Tribune on 21 July.
