"In the name of God Amen, The Thirtieth day of March in the yeare of our Lord one Thousand six hundred and sixty and two, I John SUMPTER of Pinchbeck in the county of Lincoln being in body sicke and weake, but of good and p[er]fect memory Thanks be given to God therefore do here make and ordayn this my last will and Testamentin manner and forme hereafter following,
FIRST I give and bequeathe my soule unto God my maker and Jesus Christ my Redeemer by the merits of whose death and passion I hope to have free remission of all my sinns and obtayn Everlasting life: and my body to the Earth out of which it taken. And as Concerning the temporall goods which God of his great mercy hath graciously lent me, I dispose thereof in this man[n]er and forme following.
First I surrender by the delivery of the wand, Into the hands of John TEBB one of the Customary Tennants of the mannor of Spalding on [sic] Cottage and two acres of Coppy and Land holding on the sayd mannor Lyeing in Pinchbeck aforesayd Lyeing between the kings m[ajes]ties high way on the west; and a Litle lane leading to Cowhorn on the north and the lands of mr Weston [?] on the south; for the sole use and behoof of Martha my wife during the Term of her naturall life, and after her decease to the sole use and behoof of John SUMPTER my sonn and to his Heires for ever; And if it shall happen the sayd John my sonn shall decease before his sayd mother then to Thomas my sonne and his Heires for ever; And if both my sayd sonnes shshall happen to dye before the sayd Martha my wife Then to Martha SUMPTER my daughter and her heires for ever and if it happen all my sayd Children to die before theire sayd mother, then to the right Heires of me the sayd John SUMPTER for ever To be held of the Cheife Lord or Lords of the Fee or Fees of whome the premises are holden, by the rents and services heretofore due, and of right accustomed.
Item I give unto the sayd Martha my wife Three acres of Lease land which I hold of our Graciouse Lady Heneretta Maria the Queen mother, dureing the Term of her naturall life, and after her decease to John SUMPTER my sonn and his heires for ever and if the said John shall happen to die before the sayd Martha my wife, then to Thomas my sonn and his heires for ever: and if the sayd John and Thomas shall both of them happen to die before the sayd Martha my wife, Then to Martha my daughter and her heires for ever and if all shall happen to die before the said Martha my wife or without heires then to the right Heires of me the sayd John SUMPTER for ever.
Item I give unto John my sonn the summ of Twenty pounds of Lawful English mony to be payd unto him when he shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares;
Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas SUMPTER my sonn the summe of Fourty pounds To be payd unto him when he shall accomplish the Age of one and twenty yeares
Item I give and bequeath unto Martha my daughter the summ of Fourty pounds to be payd unto her
when she shall accomplish the age of Eighteen yeares; And if it shall happen any of them to die before they shall accomplish the sayd respective ages, then my wish is that his or her part so dieing be equally divided between the other surviving, and if all of them shall happen to die before they accomplish theire sayd respective ages then my will is that the portions shall return unto Martha my wife if she be then alive, or if the sayd Martha my wife be dead then to the right Heire of me the sayd John SUMPTER.
Item I give And bequeath unto Thomas SUMPTER my brother all my Apparrell woollen hats shoos books, except my Cloake;
Item I give and bequeath unto Samuell BIRKS one Ewe and a lamb, which lambed last.
Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas SUMPTER the sonn of Thomas SUMPTER my brother one Ewe and a Lamb which l lambed last save one;
Item I give unto Phillip HARWOOD one Ewe and two lambs;
All the rest of my goods moveable and moveable yet unbequeathed i give and bequeath unto Martha my wife whome I make the full and sole Executrix of this my last will and Testamente Appoynting her to se my debts discharged and my Legacyes and bequests payd and my body decently bought [sic] to the ground, and my Funerall Expences defrayed and my will performed according to the true intent and meaning thereof, And I do hereby renounce Revoke disanull and disclame all former wills, and fully Confirme this my last will and Testament,
