From a letter written by Harry Petty EDGOOSE from the Landsborough Stud to Michael James EDGOOSE on 8 February 2000:
"The naming of our grandson Thomas James has connection with my brothers Tom and James (Jim). You indicated that you have correspondence from my father with information about Tom. Owing to a 14 year age difference and Tom's extended absence from the family home I know little of the detail of his life up to the second world war. If convenient I would like to receive a copy of father's information to pass onto Grant and our grandson Thomas.
About my brother James (Jim). Post school he commenced a course in metallurgy at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. The second world war intervened. Owing to a five year absence from study and constant dermal problems arising from duty in the tropics he was unable to continue his studies. He worked with an army mate in a glassware distribution business and later as a storeman for a confectionary company.
On my account. Post school and one year at Melbourne University, in 1948 on scolarship, I studied in New Zealand [Massey Agricultural College, University of New Zealand] and specialised in dairy husbandry and dairy farm management. On graduation [in 1950], for the next 20 years, I was a field-based dairy farm adviser, and later a senior officer of the Victorian Department of Agriculture dairy farm and dairy herd improvement service. I 'retired' in 1987."

The statement on Tom's flight triggered memory of remarks by my father that on attacking an enemy ship the aerial torpedo failed to release. The plane was brought down during a second pass. I can only surmise that my father learned of this from one of the survivors.
Recently we had Bruce and Elva TIPPETT to dinner. Family history was a keen subject for discussion. Bruce is a grandson of Arthur EDGOOSE - the eldest son of John James. Bruce tells me he has been in touch with you.
