MATTHIAS WHARRAM 1786-1866
According to Christopher Richardson Matthias WHARRAM was born on 1 November 1785 and was baptised at Skirpenbeck, Yorkshire, on 6 November.

He married Elizabeth BARNARD at Yapham, Yorkshire, on 7 February 1809.

At some time between the baptism at Naburn in 1829 of their son John and the baptism at Ellerton in 1836 of their daughter Sarah, Matthias and Elizabeth WHARRAM moved.
There were no WHARRAMs at Naburn or Hemingborough in the 1841 census.

The following children were living with Matthias and Elizabeth WHARRAM at Ellerton at the time of the 1841 census:
Margaret, aged 20
Matthew, aged 20
Mary, aged 15
William, aged 15
Ann, aged 13
John, aged 12
Sarah, aged 5
There was no trace of Ellin, Elizabeth, Jane and Thomas.
At the time of the 1851 census Matthias and Elizabeth were living at Bowthorpe Hall, Menthorp cum Bowthorp. With them were JOHN aged 21 and SARAH aged 14 (HO107/2358).
According to the 1861 census they were living at Providence House, Naburn. With them were Matthew aged 42 and described as a visitor, JOHN aged 32 and unmarried, and 18 year old granddaughter Jane Elizabeth SMITH.
He died on 24 May 1866.
The Will of Matthias WHARRAM:
"This is the last Will and Testament of me Matthias WHARRAM of Naburn in the County of York Yeoman made this thirtieth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty four. I give and bequeath the following legacies that is to say
To my daughter Eleanor the wife of Richard ROBSON of Deighton in the said County of York Farmer the sum of one hundred pounds
To my daughter Elizabeth the wife of The Reverend George COWELL of Lydgate Parsonage Saddleworth in the said County Clerk the sum of one hundred pounds
To my daughter Jane the wife of Paul SMITH the sum of one hundred pounds
To my son Matthew WHARRAM the sum of one hundred pounds
To my daughter Margaret the wife of Francis STEPHENSON of Houghton Ruddings near Howden in the said County Farmer the sum of three hundred pounds
To my daughter Mary EDGOOSE of Market Street in the City of York Widow the sum of two hundred pounds
To my daughter Ann the wife of Robert KNAPTON of Foggarthorpe in the said County Farmer the sum of three hundred pounds and to my daughter Sarah the wife of Arthur HIRST of Dobcross Saddleworth aforesaid Woollen Manufacturer the sum of three hundred pounds
And I declare that the several legacies bequeathed to the said Eleanor ROBSON Elizabeth COWELL Jane SMITH Margaret STEPHENSON Ann KNAPTON and Sarah HIRST shall be for their separate use respectively and free from the debts control or interferencce of their said husbands And that the respective receipts of my said daughters shall notwithstanding their coverture be sufficient discharges for the same And I direct that all the said legacies shall be paid at the end of twelve calendar months after my decease
And in not naming my son William as a legatee under my Will I have taken into consideration the advances I have already made to him
And I give devise and bequeath all my messuages lands tenements and hiraditaments (sic) situate at Naburn aforesaid and at Lingcroft or elsewhere in the said County of York and all other my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever And also all my money securities for money goods chattels personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever Unto my son John WHARRAM his heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature and tenure thereof respectively Subject nevertheless to the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the legacies hereinbefore bequeathed
I appoint my said son John WHARRAM sole Executor of this my Will And I revoke all former wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said Matthias WHARRAM the testator have hereunto set my hand the day and year first above written

Signed and declared by the said Matthias WHARRAM the testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses

The Testator Matthias WHARRAM was late of Naburn in the County of York Yeoman and died on the twenty fourth day of May 1866 at Naburn aforesaid
