William HAYNES married Augusta JONES at the Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Peter and Saint Paul in the district of Newport "in the counties of Salop and Stafford".
Augusta was a 24 year old Newport spinster, the daughter of Robert JONES a labourer. William was a 28 year old Newport bachelor, a wood turner, the son of Thomas HAYNES a blacksmith. Witnesses were John BRAGG and Sarah SHAW (who made her mark).

Was one year old Margaret HAYNES (see below) illegitimate? A Margaret JONES was born at Newport Salop and Staffordshire in 1849. The mother's maiden name was left blank.

William HAYNES, baker and confectioner, is listed in directories at 1 Swan Passage, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, between 1887 and 1892-3. In an 1894 directory his address is given as 42 Pall Mall, Hanley. By 1896 he is no longer listed, but there is a Mrs. Augusta HAYNES, confectioner, at 29 Marsh Street, Hanley.

A Jim HAYNES wrote to Harriet COCKER from Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was very likely one of Augusta's sons.
The death of a William HAYNES aged 70 was registered in the Stoke on Trent Registration District (which includes Hanley) in 1895.
