      (familysearch.org: Illinois, Cook County Birth Certificates, 1871-1940)
      (E-mail from Christine McSweeney 23.06.2020)

      Loosely translated from the Latin original:
      GORSKE [sic]
      baptised 28 day of November 1897 Anthony, legitimate son of August GORSKE and Catherine LEMPELIUS, born 15 November 1897. Godparents Petrus GIBASIEWICZ and Anna NOWICKI.
      (familysearch.org: Baptisms, Chicago Catholic Church, 1897)

      The 1930 Federal Census of Jefferson Township, Cook County, Illinois, USA, enumerated on 22 April 1930.
      *Anthony GORSKI, head, aged 32, married, house rented for $25 monthly, born in Illinois of German and Michigan born parents, employed as a motor coach conductor;
      Harriet GORSKI, wife, aged 27, married, born in Illinois;
      Robert GORSKI, son, aged 8, born in Illinois;
      Roy GORSKI, son, aged 11 months, born in Illinois.
      Serina OLSEN, grandmother, aged 82, widow, immigrated 1881, naturalised, born in Norway, Norwegian language spoken at home before coming to the USA.
      (NARA Series T626 Roll 474)
      NOTE: $25 monthly was a very low rent. Perhaps the next door neighbour, a 58 year old widow named Catherine GORSKI, was Anthony GORSKI's mother. She owned a house worth $3000 and may have subsidised her son's rent.

      Taken from notes made by James MIKOLAJCZYK on Ancestry.com and edited following further information received from Anthony GORSKI's grandchildren in June 2020:
      "He was Harriet's first and third husband.
      He fathered Robert GORSKI, and was ROY's step-father. He was the father present for both of the boys while they were growing up.
      His brother, Felix, owned the sheetmetal business that Roy went to work for.
      He died from a heart attack around 1948."

      Notes made by his granddaughter Christeen McSweeney on 23 June 2020:
      "I saw what James M. had shared about our Grandpa Anthony. He was a kind man, and very generous. He loved animals and they loved him. Our dad said that is how they got their dog, Queenie. He was a stray, so Grandpa brought him home. My brother Bob mentioned a story our dad told him that is rather enlightening. When the Depression hit, Grandpa had rental properties, and the renters couldn't pay. He didn't have the heart to evict them, and get renters who could pay, and decided to let them stay. That cost the family everything."

      Christine McSWEENEY also wrote:
      "Our grandpa was born on November 15, 1897. This is listed on his WWII draft card, and this date is consistent with his age listed on the many census documents I have seen, as well as his age when he married Harriet. The year 1897 is engraved on his headstone.
      He was born in Chicago. His father, August Gorske (name changed to Gorski at some point after coming to America), was from West Prussia, Danzig area, and immigrated in 1885. When Anthony was a boy, his father owned the Avondale Meat Market in the Polish area of Chicago. He had four brothers, August, Edward, Felix, and Arthur. His mother's name was Catherine Lempelius. She was born in Fayette, Michigan. Her father was also a butcher when they moved to Chicago, perhaps that is how they met.
      When my dad, Robert, was born, Anthony is listed as a cigar maker. On later census records, I see that he worked for the forest preserve, planting trees. Before his death, he worked as a conductor instructor for the Chicago Motorcoach Company."

      From the 1940 US Federal Census enumerated on 13 April 1940:

      Harriet GORSKI, wife, married, aged 37, born 1903 in Illinois, employed to do housework in a private house;
      Robert GORSKI, son, single, aged 18, born in Illinois in 1922.
      Roy (not Ray) GORSKI, son, single, aged 10, born in Illinois in 1930.
      (NARA Series T627 Roll 998)

      Next door:
