      Richard LEWIN of Wisbech St. Peter's was buried at Leverington, Cambridgeshire, in 1826 aged 70.

      The Will of RICHARD LEWIN:
      "This is the last Will and Testament of me RICHARD LEWIN late of Leverington in the Isle of Ely in the County of Cambridge and now of Wisbech St. Peters in the said Isle and County Gentleman I give and devise unto my Grandson JOHN LEWIN Son of my late deceased Son JOHN LEWIN all that my Messuage or Tenement with the Barns Stables and outhouses thereto belonging and also all those my Fourteen acres of Land be the same more or less lying under or near to the same in Leverington aforesaid in Long Meadow Field and also all those my Nine acres of Land be the same more or less lying in Leverington aforesaid lying in Catfield all which premises I purchased of ROBERT PERKINS together with the rights members and appurtenances thereto belonging to hold the said Messuage or Tenement and several Lands with their respective appurtences unto my said Grandson JOHN LEWIN and to his heirs and assigns for ever and I give and devise unto my Granddaughter JUDITH the wife of ROBERT EDGOOSE one of the daughters of my late deceased Son JOHN LEWIN all those my twenty four acres of Land lying in Long Meadow Field in Leverington aforesaid being part and parcel of fourty three acres of Land lying in Leverington aforesaid in Loong Meadow Field and Catfield aforesaid which I purchased of the heirs of Mr. HODGSON to hold the said twenty four acres of Land together with the Rights members and appurtenances thereto belonging unto my said Granddaughter JUDITH EDGOOSE and to her heirs and assigns for ever and in case my said Granddaughter JUDITH EDGOOSE shall depart this life under the age of Twenty one years without leaving Issue then I devise the said last described Lands with their appurtenances as aforesaid unto my Grandsons JOHN LEWIN and JAMES LEWIN and my Granddaughter ANN LEACH late ANN LEWIN the children of my late deceased Son JOHN LEWIN respectively and to their several heirs and assigns for ever as Tenants in Common and I give and devise unto my Granddaughter ANN LEACH the wife of JOHN LEACH of Leverington aforesaid labourer late ANN LEWIN the Eldest daughter of my said late deceased Son JOHN LEWIN all those my Nine acres of Land in Leverington aforesaid in Catfield and ten Acres of Land (more or less) in Leverington aforesaid in the same Field being the residue of the said Forty three acres of Land purchased by me of the heirs of the said Mr. HODGSON to hold the said several Lands last described and devised with their respective Appurtenances unto my said Granddaughter ANN LEACH and to her heirs and assigns for ever but in case my said Granddaughter ANN LEACH shall depart this life under the age of twenty one years without leaving lawful Issue then I give and devise the said several last described and devised Lands and premises with their respective appurtenances unto my said several Grandchildren JOHN LEWIN JAMES LEWIN and JUDITH EDGOOSE the children of my said late deceased Son JOHN LEWIN to hold the same to them my said Grandchildren JOHN LEWIN JAMES LEWIN and JUDITH EDGOOSE respectively and to their respective Heirs and Assigns for ever as Tenants in Common and I give and devise unto my Grandson JAMES LEWIN the Youngest Son of my said late deceased Son JOHN LEWIN all those my seven acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Catfield aforesaid which I purchased of Mr. GEORGE JOHNSON and also all those my Eleven acres of Land (more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Catfield aforesaid in Flail or Flain Field which I purchased of Mr. ROBERT STRINGER and also all those my Ten acres of Land more or less lying in Leverington aforesaid in Catfield aforesaid in two pieces which I purchased of Mrs. HEPBURN to hold the said several Lands last described and devised with their respective appurtenances unto my said Grandson JAMES LEWIN and to his Heirs and Assigns forever but in case my said Grandson JAMES LEWIN shahall depart this life under the age of twenty one years without leaving lawful Issue then I give and devise the said last described and devised Lands and premises with their respective Appurtenances unto my said Grandchildren JOHN LEWIN ANN LEACH and JUDITH EDGOOSE respectively and to their respective Heirs and Assigns for ever as Tenants in Common Also I give and devise unto my Son WILLIAM LEWIN all that Messuage or Tenement in Wisbech St. Peters aforesaid in Market Street purchased by me of Mr. JOSEPH MEDWORTH and also all that my Messuage or Tenement with the Barns Stables and Outhouses thereto belonging and all those my Seven acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying under or near to the same in Leverington aforeresaid in Pockfield and all those my other Seven acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in the same Field and all those my twenty seven acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in three pieces in Leveringtoon aforesaid in Remers Field all which premises I purchased of Mr. RICHARD SHEPPARD and also all those my sixteen Acres of land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Remers Field aforesaid which I purchased of Mrs. MARGARET QUIN or her Trustees and also all those my six Acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Newfield and also all those my six acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Pockfield aaforesaid all which last mentioned premises I purchased of Mr. JACOB USILL and also all those my two acrs of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Flain Field aforesaid and also all those my Eight acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Wisbech St. Peters aforesaid in Flatmore Field in two pieces and which last mentioned premises I purchased of Mr. SAMUEL STANTON and also all that my other Messuage or Tenement with the Barns Stables and Outhouses tthereto belonging and all those my Fourteen acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying under or near to the same in Leverington aforesaid in Remers Field aforesaid all which last mentioned premises were late the Estate of my Father JOHN LEWIN deceased and also all those my Twenty nine acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Remers Field aforesaid which I purchased of Mr. WILLIAM MARSHALL and also all those my thirteen acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid lying in Flax Field which I purchased of Mrs. MARY DAWKINS and others and also all those my Ten acres of Land (be the same more or less) lying in Leverington aforesaid in Flain Field aforesaid which I purchased of the said RICHARD SHEPHARD all which said premises last described and devised (except the said Messuage or Tenement in Wisbech Saint Peters aforesaid which is now in my own occupation) are in the tenure or occupation of my said Son WILLIAM LEWIN And also all other my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Real Estate wheresoever situate and of what nature or kindsoever the same may be not hereinbefore by me disposed of together with all and Singular the rights members and appurtenances to the said several Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Premises belonging or in any wise appertaining to hold the same unto my sais Son WILLIAM LEWIN and to his Heirs and Assigns for ever And I do hereby give and beqqueath unto my said Grandson JOHN LEWIN the Sum of Two hundred pounds to be payable and paid to him at the expiration of three Calendar Months next after my decease and unto my Grandson JAMES LEWIN the Sum of Three hundred pounds to be payablble and paid to him my said last named Grandson on his attaining the age of twenty one years if he shall not have attained that age at the expiration of Three Calendar Months next after my decease but if he shall attain his said age of Twenty one years before or at the expiration of Three Calendar Months next after my decease then the said Legacy or Sum of Three hundred pounds shall be paid to him at the expiration of such Three Calendar Months and I give & bequeath unto my said granddaughter ANN LEACH the Sum of two hundred pounds to be paid to her at the expiration of three calendar months next after my decease and unto my said Granddaughter JUDITH EDGOOSE the Sum of three hundred pounds to be paid to her at the expiration of three calendar months next after my decease and in case one or more of them my said Grandchildren JAMES LEWIN ANN LEACH and JUDITH EDGOOSE shall happen to depart this life either in my lifetime or after my decease before the sums herereinbefore appointed for payment of their said several Legacies leaving lawful Issue then I do hereby will and direct that the Legacy or Legacies of such one or more of them my said three Grandchildren as shall so happen to die shall be paid and divided unto and amongst his her or their Issue respectively in equal shares so that the Issue of any one or more of my said three Grandchildren so dying shall not together be entitled to receive a greater than his her or their parent or parents if living would have been respectively entitled to and in case any one or more of my said Grandchildren JAMES LEWIN ANN LEACH and JUDITH EDGOOSE shall happen to depart this life either in my life time or after my decease before the times hereinbefore appointed for the payment of their said several Legacies without leaving lawful Issue then I do hereby will and direct that the Legacy or Legacies of such one or more of my said three Grandchildren as shall so happen to die without Issuue shall be paid and divided unto and amongst my said Grandson JOHN LEWIN and the Survivors or if only one the Survivor of them the said JAMES LEWIN ANN LEACH and JUDITH EDGOOSE who shall be then living and to the Issue of any one or more of them my said four Grandchildren who shall be then dead leaving Issue in equal shares and proportions and so that such Issue shall not together be or entitled to or receive a greater share than their his or their parent or parents if living would hahave been entitled to and I direct that Interest at(?) the rate of Five pounds per Centum per annum be paid on the said several Legacies hereinbefore bequeathed from the day of my decease up to the time of the payment thereof respectively and I give and bequeath unto MARY OSBORN my Housekeeper the Sum of Fifty pounds clear of all Legacy duty in respect of the same if she shall continue in my service until the time of my decease but not otherwise and I give and bequeath unto RACRACHEL TIGERDINE the wife of JAMES TIGERDINE from and after the decease of her Husband the Sum of Five Shillings weekly and every week for and during the term of her natural life the first payment thereof to be made in the week next following thhe d death of the said JAMES TIGERDINE (if she shall be then living) and the same to be thenceforth paid to her by by my said son WILLIAM LEWIN and I give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my householf Furniture plate Linen China and all other my Goods Chattels monies Securities for money and personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kindsoever the same may be unto my said son WILLIAM LEWIN for his own use and benefit he paying thereout all my just debts Funeral Expenses the several Legacies given by this my will and the Annuity to RACHEL TIGERDINE hereinbefore by me bequeathed and the Costs and Charges of proving and executing this my will and I do hereby nominate Constitutute and appoint my said son WILLIAM LEWIN sole Executor of this my last will and Testament and the said WILLIAM LEWIN and ROBERT WEST of Newton in the said Isle of Ely and County of Cambridge Farmer Guardians of and Trustees for the Fortunes annd Estates of my said Grandchildren JAMES LEWIN ANN LEACH and JUDITH EDGOOSE during their respective Minorities and I do hereby declare my will to be that it shall and may be lawful for the said WILLIAM LEWIN and ROBERT WEST and each of them annd for their and each of their Executors and Administrators from time to time to deduct and reimburse themselves and himself respectively and to allow to each other all such losses Costs Charges and Expences as they or either of them shall or may sustaiain expend or be put unto in the execution of this my will or in any wise incidental thereto and that they or either of them shall not be answerable or accountable for the loss or misapplication of any monies that may come into his or thheir hands by virtue of this my will unless the same shall be occasioned by their or one of their wilful default or neglect and that the one of them shall not be answerable or accountable for the other of them or for the acts receipts payments or defaults of the other of them but each of them for himself and for his own separate acts receipts payments and defaults only and Lastly I give and bequeath unto the said ROBERT WEST the Sum of Thirty pounds for the trouble he may have in thhe executiion of this my will and hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretobefore made I do declare this only to be and contain my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said RICHARD LEWIN the Testator have to this m my last will and Testament contained in five sheets of paper set my hand and Seal that is to say to the first four sheets hereof my hand and to this fifth and last sheet my hand and Seal this Twenty sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty five" RICHD
