Biographies
EDGOOSE, John (1689 or 1690-1749)
In his will dated 20 June 1720 Richard ROBINSON of Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, butcher, names his nieces Jane and Sarah BENNET; his nephew John EDGOOSE; his nephew and nieces Richard, Ann and Elizabeth ROBINSON, all of whom were under 21 years old; and his grandson Richard Robinson BIMROSE also under 21 and his executor.
(LCC Wills 1722 ii 135)
If, and only if, this will can be taken at face value then we know that sisters of Richard ROBINSON married the father of John EDGOOSE and the father of Sarah and Jane BENNET. His nephew and nieces Richard, Ann and Elizabeth ROBINSON must have been the children of one or more of his brothers.
A Richard BENNIT married Ann ROBINSON at Moulton, Lincolnshire, on 16 June 1692. Before Richard was buried at Moulton on 12 October 1701 they had the following children baptised there:
John on 9 June 1693
Sarah on 26 September 1694
Richard on 19 March 1695/96
Jane on 27 December 1697
Alice on 29 March 1700. She was buried on 21 July the same year.
The Richard, Ann and Elizabeth ROBINSON, nephew and nieces of Richard ROBINSON mentioned in the will, could have been the children of John Robinson of Pinchbeck, butcher.
A John ROBINSON married Mary CANTIN at Pinchbeck on 2 May 1699. The following were children of a John and Mary ROBINSON:
Ann, daughter of John ROBINSON, butcher, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 30 January 1701/02.
Ann, daughter of John ROBINSON, butcher, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 30 December 1702.
Richard, son of John and Mary ROBINSON, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 25 March 1705 and buried there on 26 March.
Richard, son of John ROBINSON and Mary, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 7 April 1706.
Robert, son of John ROBINSON, butcher, and Mary, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 14 March 1707/08.
Elizabeth, daughter of John ROBINSON and Mary, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 30 October 1709.
An Elizabeth, baseborn daughter of Widow ROBINSON, butcher, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 10 June 1716.
An Elizabeth EDGOOSE married a John ROBINSON at Pinchbeck in 1637, but it seems unlikely that this John is a brother of Richard ROBINSON.
The search for John EDGOOSE's parentage continues.
Eleanor, wife of John EDGOOSE junior, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 13 February 1708/09. On the same day there were two other adult baptisms - Richard BRIGGINS and Susanna BRIGGINS. The godparents of the latter were John EDGOOSE, John LEE, Sara BEMROSE, and Sussanna CROPLEY.
(LRO 17 08 002A 01A)
A Sarah ROBINSON married John BEMROSE at Crowland, Lincolnshire, on 26 August 1705; she was the daughter of the Richard ROBINSON whose nephew was John EDGOOSE.
