      NOTES & QUERIES:
      According to HELEN MCCALLUM (hm.mccallum@ntlworld.com) JAMES EAGLE "was a Gamekeeper. Shortly after getting married he moved to Stonehanger, Abbots Ann, Hants. where he must have stayed until at least 1864, having 7 children. Between then and 1871 he was in Hazlebury, Somerset, and had two more children. He was illiterate. He made his mark on his son's birth certificate"

      Later she wrote "I may have a clue as to why JAMES EAGLE went from Abbats Ann to Montacute. WILLIAM PITT's grandfather was a major land holder in Abbats Ann and WILLIAM PITT the Younger laid out the rides in Pitts Wood (apparently the name is a coincidence), Montacute. It may be that the land was still in the same family and so the gamekeeper was moved from one estate to the other."
