The birth of a James NEWNHAM was registered in 1866.

According to the 1891 census of Aldershot, a James NEWNHAM was a 24 year old Royal Engineer born at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. (There is no proof that it was he who married Agnes Ellen BUTCHER)

The death of a James George NEWNHAM aged 1 was registered in 1897.

In 1901 his wife Agnes described herself as married, wife not widow, and had a two year old son. Perhaps he was away fighting in South Africa.
