  JAMES NEWNHAM 1866-1925 The birth of a James NEWNHAM was registered in 1866. (GRO 1866 Isle of Wight) According to the 1891 census of Aldershot, a James NEWNHAM was a 24 year old Royal Engineer born at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. (There is no proof that it was he who married Agnes Ellen BUTCHER) (RG12/566/38/5). The death of a James George NEWNHAM aged 1 was registered in 1897. (GRO June 1897 Farnham 2a 64) In 1901 his wife Agnes described herself as married, wife not widow, and had a two year old son. Perhaps he was away fighting in South Africa. The 1911 census of 139 Victoria Road, Aldershot, Hampshire: *James NEWNHAM, head, aged 44, army pensioner, bailor and dealer, born at Ventnor, Isle of Wight.
