His niece Halina WEST wrote that William Arthur WEST was killed in action in the First World War. I have not been able to confirm this, although I knew that his cousin Ernest Arthur WEST died during that conflict. The nearest candidate I could find was a William WEST of the Leicestershire Regiment, born in Sileby, Leicestershire, and killed in Mesopotamia in 1916. Not a very convincing piece of research, but a letter to the Regimental Archives asking for his next of kin might be decisive one way or another.
