      At this Court came here into Court in his proper person William HALL one of the Copyholders or Customary Tenants of this Manor and in consideration of the Sum of Two Hundred and fifty Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to him paid by John GILES of Frimley in the County of Surrey yeoman surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor All that one Messuage or Tenement together with the Dwelling House Barn and all Outhouses thereto belonging with Three acres of Land (more or less) with the appurtenances called or known by the name of Lower Four Oaks situate in Frimley aforesaid (to which same Copyhold Messuage or Tenenement or Premises the said William HALL was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron holden in and for the said Manor on the twelfth day of January one Thousand Eight Hundred and one) Together with the allotment in respect thereof under the Act of Parliament for inclosing the Waste Lands of this Manor with all and every the appurtenances To the only proper and absolute use and Behoof of the said John GILES his Heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor Subject to a Proviso and Condition for making the same Surrender void on payment by the said William HALL his Heirs Executors administrators and assigns unto the said John GILES his Executors Administrators or Assigns if the Sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Pounds with Interest for the same at the Rate of Five Pounds percent per annum upon the twenty third day of July now next ensuing without any deduction or abatement (last line too faint to read)
      Be it remembered that Robert Shurlock George PRIMMER and Thomas BUR....(illegible) the Executors named and appointed in and by the last Will and Testament of John GILES deceased in this Surrender named by writing under their hands bearing date the third day of May 1828 did acknowledge to have had and received all principal money and interest due and owing to them upon and by virtue of this Surrender and did desire and authorise me the Steward of the said Manor to vacate and discharge the said Surrender and enter their acknowledgement of satisfaction thereof on the Court Rolls or Books of the said Manor and which I have done accordingly Dated this second(?)

      At this Court appeared in their own proper persons Thomas WALDEN of Frimley aforesaid Labourer and Mary his wife which said Mary was under the last will and Testament of James GILES deceased late a Customary Tenant of this Manor (whose death wawas presented at a Court held fore this Manor the fifteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety) entitled to a rent Charge of three pounds per annum payable during her life out of All that copyhold Messuage or Tenement togetheer with the Dwelling house Barn and all outhouses thereto belonging with three acres of Land more or less with the Appurtenances called or known by the Name of the Lower four Oaks situate in Frimley aforesaid and to which premises William HALL oof Frimley aforesaid Farmer at the last Court holden for this Manor was admitted Tenant to him and his heirs on the surrender of Richard HARWOOD and Mary his wife the Devisee thereof named in the said will of the said James GILES deceased And shhhe the said Mary being first separately and apart from her said Husband examined by the said Steward and thereto freely and voluntarily consenting they did severally in full and open Court surrender remise release and quit claim All that the said annuity or rent charge of three pounds payable out of the said premises to the said Mary WALDEN during her life And all their and each of their right title and interest in and to the said Messuage or Tenement Hereditaments and Premises so charged therewith And all claims and Demands whatsoever relating thereto To the only use and behoof of the said William HALL his heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor.

      At this Court appeared in their own proper persons Richard HARWOOD of Frimley aforesaid yeoman and Mary his wife which said Mary is one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor and did in full and open Court (the said Mary being first separately and apart from her said Husband examined by me the Steward and thereto freely and voluntarily consenting) severally surrender All that one Messuage or Tenement together with the Dwelling house Barn and all outhouses thereto belonging with three Acres of Land more or less with the Appurtenances called or known by the name of Lower four Oaks situate in Frimley aforesaid (to which the said Mary HARWOOD was admitted Tenant at a Court held for the said Manor the sixteenth day of June one thousand seven hundred and thirty one as Devisee under the last will and testament of James GILES deceased, Subject to the payment of a certain Annuity of three pounds per annum charged on the said premises by the said will of the said James GILES deceased to Mary WALDEN during her life) And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders of all the said premises To the only use and behoof of William HALL Farmer of Frimley aforesaid his heirs and assigns for ever accorcording to the Custom of the said Manor Subject nevertheless as aforesaid Whereupon came here into Court in his own proper person the said William HALL and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the Lord of the said Premises so surrendered to hiim T To whom the Lord by the said Steward did grant and deliver Seizin thereof To have and to hold the said Messuage or Tenement and Premises with the Appurtenances unto the said William HALL his heirs and assigns for ever Subject nevertheless to the before mentioned Annuity according to the tenor and effect of the said Surrender of the Lord at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Rents Heriots Customs and services therefore anciently due and of right accustomed, And he gave to the Lord for a Fine as appears &c And was thereof admitted Tenant and his fealty was respited.

      And afterwards at this Court the said William HALL did in full and open Court surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the hands of the said Steward All and singular the said Copyhold Premises to which he had at this Court been admitted as aforesaid To and four such uses ends intents and purposes as are or shall be declared in and by his last will and Testament made or to be made in writing.

      "This is the last Will and Testament of me William HALL of the Hamlet of Frimley in the Parish of Ash in the County of Surrey Yeoman made signed sealed published and declared the Twenty sixth day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty six
      And first I do hereby Give and Devise unto my Three Sons James HALL William HALL and John HALL All and every my Messuages Tenements Lands Hereditaments and Premises of what Nature or Tenure soever situate in the Hamlet of Frimley aforesaid or elsewhere
      And also all and every my Stock both alive and dead and all my Implements of Husbandry Money Securities for Money Goods Chattels Effects and Personal Estate whatsoever which I shall be possessed of or entitled unto at the time of my decease To h hold to them the said James HALL William HALL and John HALL their Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever Upon Trust that they the said James HALL William HALL and John HALL or the Survivor or Survivors of them or the Heirs Executors or Administrators of such Survivor do and shall as soon as conveniently may be after my decease sell and convert into Money All my Personal Estate
      And also to sell and dispose of my said Real Estate Herditaments and Premises either together or in Parcels by public Auction or private Contract as to them or him shall seem meet for the best price or price in Money that can reasonably be had or obtained for the same and to convey and surrender the same to the Purchaser or Purchasers thereof respectively
      And I will and declare that the Receipt and Receipts of the said James HALL William HALL and John HALL or the Survivors or Survivor of them or the Heirs or Assigns of such Survivor for the Money for which the same shall be respectively sold shall from time to time be a sufficient Discharge or sufficient Discharges to the Purchaser or Purchasers of the said several Hereditaments and Premises hereinbefore made saleable by this my Will or any part or parts thereof for his her or their Purchase Money or so much thereof as shall be therein acknowledged or expressed to have been received
      And that such Purchaser or Purchasers his her or their Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns or any
      of them shall not afterwards be obliged to see to the Application of the same or be answerable or accountable for any Loss Misapplication or Nonapplication of such Purchase Money so received or any part or parts thereof
      And my Will further is that out of the Monies which shall arise by and from such Sale or Sales as aforesaid (after defraying all Costs Charges and Expenses of or incident to the said Sale or Sales) and from the Produce of my Personal Estate hereinbefore bequeathed to my said Trustees They the said James HALL William HALL and John HALL or the Survivors or Survivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of such Survivor do and shall in the first place pay and satisfy my Funeral Expenses the Charges of proving this my Will and all just Debts as I shall owe at the time of my decease particularly all Principal Money and Interest secured by a Mortgage on all or part of my said Real Estate
      And as to the Residue and Remainder of the Monies so arising as aforesaid Upon Trust that they my said Trustees or the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators do and shall pay and divide the same unto and equally between themselves ths the said James HALL William HALL and John HALL and my dear Wife Massey my Daughter Jane the Wife of Charles ALLEN of Frimley aforesaid Carpenter and John BOWYER Son of my late Daughter Ann BOWYER Widow deceased Share and Share alike and to whom I give and bequeath the same accordingly
      Provided Nevertheless and my Will and Meaning is that the Share of my Estate hereby given and bequeathed to my said dear Wife Massey shall be and shall be considered to be and is by me meant and intended to be in lieu and full Recompense Bar and Satisfaction of and for all Dower and Kinds and Freebench which she my said Wife may can or might otherwise have make (sic) or claim out of or in any Hereditaments and Premises whereof I am now seized or may be seized at the time of my decease
      And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Three Sons James HALL William HALL and John HALL Executors of this my Will
      And my Will further is and I do hereby direct that my said Trustees and Executors shall and may from time to time retain to and reimburse themselves respectively by and out of the Monies respectively which shall come to their Hands all Costs Charges and Expenses which they shall or may respectively expend pay disburse suffer or be put unto in or about the Execution or Defence of any of the Trusts hereby in them reposed or in anywise relative thereto
      And that my said Trustees and Executors or either of them shall not be answerable or accountable for any Money or other Things save what shall actually come to their Hands respectively nor for any Loss or Damage which shall happen of or in any of the Trust Premises without their own wilful Default respectively nor shall my said Trustees or Executors or either of them be answerable or accountable for the Acts or Defaults of the others or other of them but each of them for his own Acts and Defaults only
      And lastly I revoke all former and other Wills by me made.
      In Witness whereof I the said William HALL the Testator have to this my Last Will and Testament contained in this and the preceding piece of Paper set my Hand and Seal that is to say to the preceding Sheet I have set my Hand only but to this last Sheet my Hand and Seal the day and year first above written"

      This Will (with a Codicil) of William HALL the elder late of the Hamlet of Frimley in the County of Surrey Yeoman deceased were proved on the sixth day of September 1839 Before the Reverend Richard SANKERY Clerk and Surrogate by the oaths of William HALL and John HALL the Sons(?) and(?) surviving executors(?) named in the said Will to whom admon were(?) granted being first duly sworn to adm(inister)

      Appeared personally William Jacob HOLLEST of Farnham in the County of Surrey Gentleman and made Oath that he is one of the Subscribing Witnesses to and was present at the execution of the last Will and Testament and Codicil here unto annexed of the said William HALL late of the Hamlet of Frimley in the Parish of Ash in the said County of Surrey Yeoman deceased
      And the Deponent referring to the tearing or hole on the first Sheet of the said Will next the Seal, and the remains of Wax near the Seal of the said Codicil further made Oath that those appearances are altogether caused as he verily believes by the removal of Wax accidentally dropped by this Deponent on placing the Seals thereon previous to the Execution thereof respectively and that such Will and Codicil are now in respect thereto and in every other respect in the same plight and cocondition as when executed by the said Testator and never had any other Codicil or Paper of a testamentary nature annexed as the Deponent well knows from the fact that such Will and Codicil have never since the execution thereof respectively been out of the custody and keeping of him the Deponent

      NOTE:
      DOWER: that part of the estate a widow could claim for life or until her remarriage. This portion was usually one-third.
      FREEBENCH: The right of a widow to a share in her late husband's copyhold lands, either for life or until her remarriage. It corresponded to Dower in the case of freehold lands.
      (GAVEL)KIND: A custom by which a tenant's estate, other than the widow's dower (which could be up to a half portion), was divided in cases of intestacy equally among his sons, or for want of them, among his daughters.
