WAGSTAFFE complains against William EDCUS in a plea of debt, in which he pleads that he owes him 20d for rent of a house which ought to have been paid last Midsummer and he has not paid, to damage [&c]; and the said defendant does not come to answer; therefore in the lord's mercy 6d [i.e. amerced 6d].
The defendant says [that he is not guilty] and puts himself upon the country [i.e. submits the case to a jury] - who say that the defendant owes: therefore in mercy.
