Hannah SWAN was born at Kimberley, Nottinghamshire, on 11 December 1841, daughter of Thomas and Mary SWAN. Thomas SWAN, a collier, had married Mary HUTSBY at Selston, Nottinghamshire, on 19 November 1838.

A Hannah SWANN was married to a Samuel REDGATE at Fulford Chapel, Stone, Staffordshire, on 13 April 1862. She was described as a 20 year old spinster residing at Star and Garter and daughter of Thomas SWANN, a collier. Her husband was a 21 year old bachelor, a collier, also of Star and Garter, and son of Simon REDGATE, a collier. Hannah made her mark. Witnesses were James STODDARD and Edwd BAKER.

A Samuel REDGATE died at 28 Lundhill, Wombwell, Darfield, Yorkshire, on 28 September 1862 aged 22.

There is no evidence that this was HANNAH's husband, but the deaths of no other men of that name were registered in 1862.
On 27 December 1862 a Hannah REDGATE made her mark as witness to the marriage at Brinsley District Church, Nottinghamshire, of Luke RICHARDS, coal miner, to Eliza HUTSBY, the 24 year old daughter of coal miner William HUTSBY.

Hannah REDGATE, a 22 year old widow from Brinsley, and daughter of Thomas SWANN, coal miner, married John EDGOOSE, a 26 year old Brinsley coal miner, son of Joel EDGOOSE, labourer, at Brinsley, Nottinghamshire, on 30 October 1865. Martha HUTSBY (an aunt, sister, or niece?) and Joseph GREGORY were witnesses.

According to the 1881 census returns for Greasley, Nottinghamshire, she was 36 years old (i.e. born in 1844 or 1845) at Loscoe in Derbyshire. (Loscoe is five or six miles from Kimberley):

She emigrated to the USA with her husband in about 1884.
She died at the age of 50 on 4 March 1892 and was buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, USA (Grave 8, Row 4, Block A Addition in Section 6).
Her death certificate refers to her as Hannah HEADGOOSE, a housewife aged 50 years and 2 months. She had been a resident of the State of Illinois for 6 years. She died at 78 Bismark Ct at 8.30am on 4 March 1892.
Cause of Death: Phtisis Pulmonalis.
