COUNTY POLICE> - Wednesday. - Before W. H. RICHARDS, Esq. - Joseph BUTCHER and Samuel MATTOCK werre charged with stealing, at Yeovil, on the 17th inst., a purse and £1 17s 1.1/2d, from the person of Samuel SUGG. The prosecutor, who is a labourerer, of Milton, Martock, said that he was at Yeovil Fair, on the 17th, and about six in the evening he was at the Lamb Inn, where he saw the two prisoners. He treated them with a pint of beer to let him ride home in their cart. He was intoxicated. They placed him in the cart : but MATTOCK pulled him out again, and said he should not go with them unless he paid a shilling; MATTOCK put his hand into his pocket, and took out his purse; and he (prosecutor) never saw it again afterwards. MATTOCK then lifted him into the cart again, and said to BUTCHER, "It is all right." On reaching the turnpike gate, BUTCHER told him that he should pay the toll; and he put his hand into his pocket. BUTCHER then said "Let me do it," and paid the money. They went on about a mile, and then pulled him out of the cart again; they also pulled him out twice afterwards, and served him very badly. On reaching the public-house, at the bottom of Vagg-hill, the prisoners went inside, and he followed them. BUTCHER said that he should pay for a pint of beer. He replied that he had no money; and they then refused to take him any further. Mr. COLE, the landlord of the Lamb, was next examined; and a witness named Robert WALL, a sawyer, said thhat, about eight o'clock, he saw the prisoners and prosecutor between the inn and the turnpike-gate, with a cart. SUGG was standing by the cart; and MATTOCK said they would take him home. if he paid a shilling. BUTCHER said he should go with them whether he paid or not; and MATTOCK then put his hand into the prosecutor's trousers pocket, and took out something, which he put into his own pocket. WEDNESDAY. - Before John WOOD, Esq.:

WHEATHAMS; the latter was charged with stealing 2 ribs of beef, about 2lbs of mutton and a piece of salted beef, and the former with receiving the same from the White Hart Hotel, Martock, on Monday night last. It appears from the evidence of Miss [sic] JOHNSON that about 7 o'clock on the evening in question, she saw the meat quite safe in the larder, and about a quarter past eight the same eevening she missed it. She immediately gave information to the police, and Sergt. CLARKE, in company with P.C. WHEATHAM, went to the house of Joseph BUTCHER, and there found a part of the mutton and the two ribs of beef locked in a box up stairs, and the younger prisoner concealed behind the door, who denied all knowledge of it. On being brought before the justice she said she did not steal the meat, but found it near Mrs. JOHNSON'S front door. The father denied all knowledge of knowiing its being in his house. The meat was clearly identified by Mrs. JOHNSON, and both were committed for trial.
