THE WILL OF JOHN STANTON (1731-1810), butcher, of West Walton, Norfolk

"This is the last will and testament of me John STANTON of West Walton in the County of Norfolk Butcher First I give and devise unto my wife Ann STANTON all and every my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estates whatsoever and wheresover both freehold and Copyhold with their and every of their rights members and appurtenances To hold the same unto my said wife Ann STANTON and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise all my said real Estates with their appurtenances unto my Daughter Mary the wife of John EDGOOSE To hold the same unto my said Daughter Mary EDGOOSE and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise all my said real Estates with their appurtenances unto my Son in law John EDGOOSE and Richard LEWIN of Leverington in the Isle of Ely in the County of Cambridge Farmer their heirs and assigns To Holld the same unto the said John EDGOOSE and Richard LEWIN their heirs and assigns upon the several trusts and to and for the several uses intents and purposes hereinafter mentioned expressed and declared of and concerning the same (that is to sayy) Upon Trust that they the said John EDGOOSE and Richard LEWIN or the Survivor of them or the Heirs of such Survivor do and shall as soon as conveniently may be after the decease of my said Daughter Mary EDGOOSE absolutely sell and dispose of my said real Estates with the Appurtenances for the best prices in money that can be reasonably had and obtained for the same either by public auction or private Contract and in such manner as they or he shall think most advantageous and for facilitating the Sale and disposition of my said real Estates I do hereby expressly will and declare that the receipt or receipts of the said John EDGOOSE and Richard LEWIN or the Survivor of them or the Heirs of such Survivor shall be good and sufficient acquittances and Discharges to the purchasor (sic) or purchasers thereof or any part thereof for his her or their respective purchase monies or for so much thereof as in such receipt or receipts shall be mentioned and expressed and that ssuch purchaser or purchasers shall not afterwards be obliged to see the application or be answerable or accountable for the misapplication or nonapplication of the said Purchase monies or any part thereof and upon further trust that they the saiaid John EDGOOSE and Richard LEWIN or the Survivor of them or the Heirs Executors or Administrators of such Survivor do and shall place out the monies arising from the Sale and Disposal of my said real Estates at Interest upon Government or reaeal Securities and do and shall from time to time call in the same or any part thereof and again place out the same at Interest upon the like Securities and upon further trust that my said Trustees or Trustee do and shall apply and dispose of the Interest of the said Monies for and towards the maintenance Education and benefit of all the Children of my said Daughter Mary EDGOOSE equally (if more than one) until they shall respectively attain their several ages of twenty one years or Day of Marriage which shall first happen and when and as the said Children of my said Daughter Mary EDGOOSE shall respectively attain their several ages of twenty one years or Days of Marriage Then upon Trust that my said Trustees or Trustee do and shall pay and divide all the said monies arising in manner aforesaid unto and amongst all and every the said Children of my said Daughter Mary EDGOOSE equally share and share alike and in case only one such Child shall live to attain his or her age of twenty one years or Day of Marriage then that they or he do and shall pay all the said Monies unto such only Child at the time aforesaid and I give and bequeath unto my Sons Wright STANTON and William STANTON and my Granddaughter Ruth ELLINGWORTH the Sum of one Guinea each to be paid to them by my Executrix hereinafter named immediately after my decease And I give and bequeath unto my said wife Ann STANTON all and singular other my Goods Chattels Personal Estate and Effects whwhatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kindsoever the same may be she paying and discharging thereout as soon as conveniently may be after my decease in the first place all my just Debts on bond and Simple Contract and then applying ththe remainder of my said personal Estate and Effects towards discharge of any Mortgages or Incumbrances I may have on my said Estates at the time of my decease And I do hereby declare that it shall be lawful for my said Trustees from time to timime and at all times by and out of the trust monies which shall come to their or either of their hands by virtue of this my will to deduct and reimburse themselves respectively all such Loss Costs Charges and Expences (sic) as they or any part of them shall respectively sustain expend or be put unto by reason of the trusts hereby in them reposed or the management or execution thereof and that my said Trustees shall not be chargeable with or accountable for any more of the said Trust moonies than they shall respectively actually receive by virtue of this my will nor with or for any loss that shall happen to the said monies or any part thereof So as such Loss happen without their own wilful neglect or default and that the one of them shall not be answerable for the other of them or for the acts Deeds receipts or payments of the other of them but each of them for himself and his own Executors and administrators acts deeds receipts and payments only And Lastly I do herereby nominate and appoint my said wife Ann STANTON sole Executrix of this my last will and Testament and hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time I do declare this only to be my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Johhn STANTON the Testator have to this my last will and
