He died from meningitis at Maerdy, Rhondda, South Wales, on 21 August 1904 aged 53 after an accident at Ferndale Colliery in which he lost an eye.

A report of the inquest appeared in the Rhondda Leader of 27 August 1904. It reported that he had been unable to work since the inquest and that "meningitis was probably brought on by the accident to the eye".
"Mardy collier's death
An inquest was held on Wednesday touching the death of Frederick TICKLER of Mardy. Last January he met with an accident at No 5 Pit Ferndale, by which he lost one eye. Since then he had not been able to resume work and last Saturday he suddenly grew worse and died on Sunday. According to the medical evidence death was due to meningitis probably brought on by the accident to the eye."

NOTES & QUERIES:
Laurette Avenda ROGERS wrote in 2006 that she had in her posession letters dated 1937 from his sister Marion to her nephew Frederick J. TICKLER. It appears that Frederick William TICKLER left the main family behind after some argument with Robert Preston TICKLER in 1886 and had no further contact with his father, mother, or sisters. Tradition has it that he wanted to train as a doctor but his father refused to finance his training.

"In the Name of God Amen I Robert TYLER of the Parish of Gosberton in the County of Lincoln, Farmer & Grazier, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory (thanks to Amighty God,) calling to mind the mortality of the Body, and knowing thaaat it is appointed unto all men once to die; do constitute make, ordain & publish this my last will & Testament in form and manner following. That is to say principally and first, I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body I commit to the Earth to be buried with decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executor hereinafter named, nothing doubting, but that I shall receive the same again at the General Resurrection by the power of Almighty God; And as touching such worldly Estate and Effects wherewith Almighty God hath blessed me in this Life, I give, bequeath, and dispense of in the form and manner following.

I likewise give and bequeath unto my well beloved Nephew Sutton TYLER of Horbling in the county of Lincoln, Taylor the further sum of five pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid as above.

William BARNES of Surfleet and Elizabeth EDGOOSE of Gosberton were married at Gosberton, Lincolnshire, on 28 November 1787. Thomas PETCHELL and Robert TYLER were witnesses. Robert TYLER had married Ann, widow of John EDGOOSE, on 10 October 1781.
William BARNES of Quadring Fen was buried at Surfleet, Lincolnshire, on 23 March 1818 aged 61.

"This is the last Will and Testament of me William BARNES of Quadring in the County of Lincoln, Farmer, made this sixteenth Day of March in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight Hundred & Eighteen as follows First I give and bequeath to my So Son William BARNES the Sum of ten Pounds of good & lawful Money of Great Britain to be Paid to him by my Executor & Executrix at the Expiration of Twelve Months after my Decease I give and bequeath to my Daughter Eliz. BARNES the Sum of Fifty P Pounds of good & lawful Money of Great Britain to be Paid to her by my Executor & Executrix herin after Named at the Expiration of Twelve Months after my Decease I give and Devise unto my loving Wife Eliz: BARNES & to my Children Mary, Sarah, & David BARNES jointly all that Piece or Parcel of Land lying & being in Quadring Fen containing Nine Acres be the Same more or less on these Conditions, That is, if my Wife or any of my Said Children Mary, Sarah & David, should happen to Die before the youngest comes of Age the Survivor or Survivors of them shall be Heirs of the shares of the Deceased But when my Wife Departs this Life, if then my son DAVID be come of Age and not till then, then I order & direct the Trustee hereinafter Named to Sell and despose of the said Nine Acres of Land, and the Money arising from such Sale shall be equally Divided amongst my Said Children Mary, Sarah & David BARNES, or such of them as may be living at the Time of Such Sale
And I do hereby nominate and appoint my Son John BARNES As Guardian & Trustee for my Said Wife, Mary, Sarah & David BARNES, and to have full Power over the Said Land to let the Same and receive Rents and to Act in all Matters and things relating to the said Piece of Land, And at the Time of Sale of Such Land, the said John BARNES's receipts for the Purchase Money shall be a full & sufficient descharge to the Purchaser for as much Money as shall be contained in Such Receipt
And I further Order and Direct that my said Son John BARNES shall apply the Rents of the shares of my said Children in the said Nine Acres of Land toward their Maintenance & bringing up - Lastly as to all the rest residue and Remainder of my Personal Property be it of what Kind or nature soever or where soever situate, I give and bequeath the Same unto my loving Wife Eliz: BARNES and to my Son John BARNES whom I nominate and Appoint my Executrix & Executor of this my Will and Testament, they my Said Executrix & Executor shall at all Times bring up, maintain, Cloath, and give Proper Education to my Said Children, Mary Sarah & David BARNES untill they shall severally Accomplish their Ages of Twenty one years And that they my Executrix and Executor Shall Pay all my Debts & Funeral Expences, and all Expences of proving this my Will. There is no record of his baptism at Gosberton, Lincolnshire. There is a record of a baptism of a Robert TYLER at Osbournby in Lincolnshire on 15 July 1753.
John EDGOOSE, grazier from Gosberton, and Ann DOLTON, spinster from Gosberton, were married at Gosberton Parish Church on 21 September 1768.
John EDGOOSE was buried at Gosberton on 27 May 1781. Ann EDGOOSE, widow of John EDGOOSE, administered his estate and Edward HARE, farmer of Gosberton, and Robert TYLER, yeoman of Gosberton, were named in the Administration Bond with her.

The Will of Robert TYLER, farmer and grazier, of Gosberton, Lincolnshire, made on 19 March 1805

"In the Name of God Amen I Robert TYLER of the Parish of Gosberton in the County of Lincoln, Farmer & Grazier, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory (thanks to Amighty God,) calling to mind the mortality of the Body, and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die; do constitute make, ordain & publish this my last will & Testament in form and manner following. That is to say principally and first, I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body I commit to the Earth to be buried with decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executor hereinafter named, nothing doubting, but that I shall receive the same again at the General Resurrection by the power of Almighty God; And as touching such worldly Estate and Effects wherewith Almighty God hath blessed me in this Life, I give, bequeath, and dispense of in the form and manner following.
First I give and bequeath unto my well beloved nephew Robert TYLER, son of my Brother Thomas TYLER of Osbournby in the said County of Lincoln the Sum of five Pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Robert TYLER by my Executor out of my Estate & Effects, a Twelvemonth and a Day after my decease and it is my wish that the said Sum may be imployed towards putting him out to some useful Trade if approved of by him & those concerned
I also give and bequeath unto my well beloved Niece Elizabeth TYLER Daughter of my Brother Thomas TYLER of Osbournby aforesaid the Sum of five pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid unto her by my Executor out of my Estate & Effects, a Twelvemonth and a Day after my decease
I further give and bequeath unto my well beloved Nephew William TYLER Grocer of Billingborough in the said County of Lincoln the Sum of five pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid unto him by my Executor out of my Estate and Effects a Twelvemonth and a Day after my decease
I likewise give and bequeath unto my well beloved Nephew Sutton TYLER of Horbling in the county of Lincoln, Taylor the further sum of five pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid as above.
I further give and bequeath unto my well beloved son in law John HEADGOOSE of the Parish of Walton near Wisbeach in Cambridgeshire the Sum of Ten Pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid by my Executor as above.
Lastly I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son in Law James HEADGOOSE of the Parish of Gosberton aforesaid, who now resides with me, and whom I also nominate, make, appoint and ordain the Sole Executor of this my Last Will & Testament, AlAlAll my Estate, Effects, Goods, Chattels & Money possessed by me at the Time of my Decease my lawful Debts, Funeral Expenses, & the above Legacies being first duly discharged as the same shall become due; by the said James HEADGOOSE his Executors, Heirs and Assigns forever to be be possessed and enjoyed, without any Molestation, let or Hindrance from or by any person whatsover;
And I do hereby declare this and this only to be my last will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this Nineteenth Day of March, in the Year of our Lord One thousand & Eight Hundred and Five
